This is the parts which I missed mentioning in the video compiled blog.
First Brunch turned Lunch in KUL
A planned brunch here (Yut Kee) was turned into a lunch as the delayed to collect +Kenneth Loke's luggage in KLIA was delayed. A disgusting amount of time to collect. Almost 3 hours since touched down! Boleh, sial!
That was also the first time I boarded such a slow "shuttle train" from airport to city. The joke never cease around here, innit?
This time, we ordered the Hailam Mee. I like it! I am the only one in this group of three who has a sweet tooth. So, I can understand why the others hated this. Teehee.
Roti Babi - pork bun - is still too dry for my taste. Last time I dined here was about 9 years ago? So, I still don't fancy this dish. At least this outlet maintained its standard. Praiseworthy.
It wasn't as crowded since we arrived slightly passed 1200hrs. We did left the place with many leftover, though.
First Choice of Lodging
View from our room in Furama Bukit Bintang |
The stays in Furama was a pleasant one. As we will be needed to meet other chefs in Berjaya Times Square during these stays, +Florence Loke has booked this room for us! Walking distant between these two venues in our trip agenda. Perfect! I hate traffic congestion in the city. Avoid driving at all cost unless we really needed it.
First Night Dinner in the 'hood
It has been a decade since I last ate here! To be precise, about 12 years ago. Ordered the staple dishes I've fell in love with long ago. Do you know it is not easy to find chut-chut at local seafood outlets these days?! When foreign friends asked about this dish, the simplest explanation from me is "a poor man's version of top-shell or escargot" ...and no further explanation needed thereafter.
The second dish was kam hiong (stir fried mix of fresh spices and curry leaves) crab. It was at Wong Ah Wah I had my first try of kam hiong! Fell in love and ever since then, I have not encountered others coming close to that taste. Alas, my visit after a decade was rather disappointing. This kam hiong crab has lost its "hiong" - fragrant - from my memory. It was also worth mentioning they have overcooked the crab, making the flesh devoid of moisture. Think, mummified crab. Geddit?
I should have anticipated that disappointment. That place has expanded beyond my imagination in SPACE. Filled to the brim with tourists and somewhere along that progress, they've lost sight of what made them good in the first place. Sigh and yawn. Same shit, different toilet. I know this place was already quite famous amidst tourists. But if you cannot maintain standard during expansion, it is not called progress. It is like putting on weight of fats and not weight of muscles.
Also, to come here from where we stayed on foot was a bitch! The confusing and dangerous paths were worth considering giving it a miss. Construction works are everywhere along the short distance. Making the usual route longer, windier and hazardous from lawless discard/placement of construction wastes.
