Lunch at Din Tai Fung, Dinner at Imperial Steamboat

Last dined here about a year plus ago!
Staple dish, xiao long bao. Don't compare to Shanghai ones, okie?

+Kenneth Loke and I drove to Singapore in the late morning for errands and (his) practise.

First stop was Raffles City. He needs to grab some fresh produces from ex-colleague before meeting Chef Madeline in another kitchen. She was, as usual, so kind to arrange a fully equipped kitchen for him to practise! Bocuse d'Or Malaysia selection date is drawing close. No slacking here!

While he's there for that, practice and borrowing competition dish wares, I was there to scout for our wedding bands, part two.

First, lunch with my lovely GF, Karyn Lee amidst her busy schedule. I chose to eat within the building and it has been a while since I last dined here - Din Tai Fung (Raffles City Shopping Center).

We've ordered the staple dishes. Well, staple for me, at least, whenever I'm here. A basket of its xiao long bao (original), a plate of vegetarian delight (cold dish) and a set of pork cutlet rice (first try for me as Karyn would like to have this favourite of hers).

Xiao Long Bao - it tasted off for us. Only to realized we have ordered the wrong one! We had the crab meat stuffing instead! Silly giggles ensued during payment when we looked at the receipt.

Vegetarian Delight - it was pretty meh. It has lost its pleasant acid tone and watered down its fermented curds base a lot! Texture is still there with the same combo. Only the taste was compromised by a diluted dressing.

Pork Cutlet Rice Set - as usual, the stir fried rice with egg is good. As for the pork cutlet topping, it didn't goes so well with my personal palate. It wasn't disgustingly oily and it is crispy. I was only looking forward to light and refreshing meal that day. My usual order is that prawns version, not this.

Next, Karyn brought me to a wedding bands specialist within the building. I am impressed with the collections. The designs are also acceptable as they do have some non-typically Asian's choices for wedding bands. Which, Kenneth and I met A LOT in Malaysia! I've already told him to order from Scandinavia jewelers but timing wasn't enough then - blog. Well, he believes me NOW! We have chosen one from this outlet but we couldn't wait for the delivery dateline. We don't want to compromise on choices of what was just there with our finger sizes.

Anyway, wedding bands hunting in Singapore still failed. We will be back to Selberan for the chosen pair!

So, from Raffles City to Marina Square on foot till I took a train to continued my search from ION and Orchard Rd.

After about 4 hours of speed walking and stairs climbing, it is time to meet the rest for dinner! Woot! I'm done burning my light lunch already. Teehee. Hmm... I wonder why people used the stairs as their public seats. It was really weird to be stared at when I was climbing up from the train station towards Raffles City entrance!

Dinner at Imperial Steamboat, ION Orchard. Just let them do all the orderings. I am in safe hands. Haa!

The environment and staves here are really nice, AND PROFESSIONAL! A very rare trait these days, really. More often than not, people I've met thus far, always leave me questioning their purposes to join the hospitality industries in the first place! Nothing hospitable about their attitudes and service/product knowledge is close to NULL!

Well, just walk towards the mall's Concierge desk on that same floor, you will know what I meant! I didn't know Madeline was victimized by the Concierge on duty till we were almost at the building's exit. That spineless, pride-less boy who put shames to the very definition of Concierge in dictionary and history! Pui! I absolutely despise people who took up a job without a sense of pride and humbleness in the society. Bugs! For the good spirit of everyone else in the group, I moved forward to our next stop. Don't let bug like that be the spoilsport of life for others.

Thank you, Madeline, for the nice dinner! Next, coffee at Starbucks before we drove back to J.B.
