Huawei LTE B315 + Xiaomi Wifi Extender

This is my current home internet set-up - Huawei LTE B315 + Xiaomi Wifi Extender. Both Unifi and Streamyx are not available for me in this new building. The only option at this point is to be tied up to a rather unknown provider named Whoopie.

About Whoopie
I do not like the upfront payment by Whoopie nor am I comfortable with its T&C and people behind it. At first, the toll-free number given is not valid. Then another given number located in Kuala Lumpur was answered by someone who is the customer service, technical consultant, etc - 1 man show. At one point, he asked me to pay upfront for 12 months usage. I'm renting for less than 2 years (network minimum contract is 2 years) and I've asked what happened if you don't serve the area I'm moving next? Because, Unifi allows you to forfeit the penalty for cancelling before the contract is due under such condition.

So, the 1 man show came out with multiple on-the-spot terms & condition, being all flexible on my demands/conditions but to only tell me everything will be pending approval once I signed & paid on their conditions? Say, what?! Doesn't contract when signed means you've agreed to all the terms already written/stated?

Yes, I am one of those who reads every single words stated in the contract; even those that is not written but ought to. At which, I will always seek further details and clarification on each term that is not agreeable or clear with the party involved.

Also note that the printed contract given at the apartment and the one available on their main website has DIFFERENT terms; last checked on March 2016. Beware.

You need to pay pretty much every upfront there is to get started, including installation and troubleshooting visit. Troubleshooting visit has no regards if it is their network nor their equipment issues. Additional cost on top of visiting cost will be imposed. Meaning, they will visit your premise to troubleshoot for a fee & any repair cost further will be imposed upon that.

Xiaomi Wifi Extender
Now, that brings me to why I'm using a contract-free U Mobile and invested in a proper LTE modem that comes with a TEL line-out.

MYR40.90 from Lazada
Minimalist Design (^_^)

I've gotten the extender after some testing with the LTE modem. Signal is weak after 2 walls. I've placed the extender in our master bedroom whilst the LTE modem stays in the hall.

Plug into a power source

Orange light blinking for pairing/start-up

Green light paired/connected

Setting up is a breeze if you already have Mi Home App. I have 2 other Xiaomi home devices prior to this. The breeze part ends when there is certain hiccups that might pop-up during the pairing time. Which is pretty common with all the Xiaomi devices I have at the moment. Just need a few tries if that happens.

I'm one of the lucky one at this point whence a few tries do works without a big roundabout tweaking. Also, it is fairly common to find set-up instructions online as well as troubleshooting at this point.

I've set mine up to have a different SSID than the main modem;

Extender's connection comes with a "_plus"

I've initially set it up to have the same SSID as my main modem. When I moved around the apartment with my mobilephone, the signal will drops since it won't switch to the stronger connection by default.

By choosing to turns on the different SSID name in your Mi Home App - Mi Wi-Fi Repeater - turn off the first option in the line. Yes, I couldn't read Chinese words that well, relying on Screenshot - Google Translate - Camera - Gallery - scan for Chinese words to translate ヽ༼ಥ_ಥ༽ノ

It works well on our Xiaomi phones, iPad and Chromebooks thus far. One annoying bit though, when I manually switched it to connect to "_plus", my phone's default browser will pops up, trying to get to its IP page. I don't use the default browser at all. I need to clear cache & force stop the app (browser) each time since I'm only using Chrome browser on all my devices.

Nicky Clarke: Slim Curve Straigthener
Finally! It's delivered ((ヽ(๑╹◡╹๑)ノ))♬ No thanks to courier service, GDex, for being the 3rd party handler when my item arrived in Malaysia. This is MOST unfortunate ლ(ಥ益ಥლ) !

Super long & clunky cord!
I've gotten this deal off MySale for (◔◡◔✿) MYR80, along with my luxury towel set. Shipping fee total for both items = MYR25. Standard rate, regardless of the amount (item) you're purchasing from this website.

Unfortunately, GDex fucked +゚*。:゚+凸(◕‿◕✿)+゚ up my towel delivery. Refusing to confirm delivery to me when I found out from MySale that they (GDex) are the 3rd party handler when my item arrived in Malaysia. I went ahead to track...  (>(●●)<) The story & video here [LINK]

Now, back to my curve straigthener, it's super! My fringe curls in under 2 minutes (◔◡◔✿) - time includes plugging it - lasted almost 10 hours without hairspray and smooth!

Opening the Skynet wrapping to find a rat-chewed Skynet wrapping

Lazada Malaysia did it again. They are starting to use unreliable delivery agents and sellers. This is the second craps I've received within a week from purchasing in Lazada. Why don't you just use Poslaju like the other online sellers here? Not only do their chosen delivery agents delayed delivery - from monitoring their online tracking status - , these delivery agents will not call the recipients about the delays - couldn't find address or in this case, mishandling of client's item in their storage before delivery. Leading to rat-chewed package on my pack of cat food.

Earlier on the same week, I've received a fake Jabra Stealth from a seller in Lazada; stating 100% Satisfaction Guaranteed. Emails to and fro with Lazada to rectify this scam. Their customer hotline is down. Website form is not responding in time and quarky at times; closing the ticket before they answer my query. Finally got the Online Return Form printed and no answer from Lazada when I asked if they are picking up the package or ......?

For Him
After a few weeks passed with pack-filled appointments, we gave up trying to take a short getaway trip to celebrate our Wedding Anniversary this year. For the reserved funds we have for this event, we're going to just get each other the lowered price Android Wear in the market now.

Looking good (^_^)
I've been waiting for the prices to drop since its (Android Wear) announcement a year plus ago. The prices are at our comfortable, reserved zone and decided to get one each in celebration of our anniversary this year.
His (Left) and Hers (Right)
We've ordered both at the same time. Online. From different website. Mine from Expansys (Moto 360). Thinking it is about RM100 cheaper than the same website (Lazada) my husband's Asus Zenwatch, that's quite a saving. But you know what, after the shipping and GST, it was the same price, minus all the hassle that Expansys made me went through to get it.

Expansys Purchasing Experiences:

  1. RM699 for Moto 360 with black leather strap. Shipping is RM44. Amounted to RM743.
  2. Online order with given Credit Card details. No other mode of payment given, e.g., PayPal.
  3. 25 hours later, received email asking me to acknowledge a plausible additional cost will be incurred for the item to be shipped into Malaysia. E.g., custom clearance, GST, et al. No amount stated. Just stated the chosen courier agent will inform me of the additional fee.
  4. Replied the email to acknowledged and approved.
  5. Another 28 hours later, no reply from Expansys.
  6. Call Expansys Singapore from Malaysia. Because the other option is calling their more costly Hong Kong telephone number.
  7. After phone call, received an email from Expansys to acknowledged my agreement for the extra (plausible) cost.
  8. Another 23 hours later, Expansys sent me another email asking me to verify the credit card given. Following the instruction and link given, I submitted my rented house's utility bill and explain the name difference on the bill. On the email they have sent, they stated the utility bill is acceptable just to verify the shipping address is tally with the credit card. No mention of name.
  9. Another 20 hours later, no reply from Expansys. Call Expansys Singapore again. 10 minutes later, email acknowledging they have received the document for verification. A SMS was sent from my husband's credit card about the charges.
  10. Another 25 hours later, email from Expansys asking me to do a bank in to their Hong Kong's company to process the purchase - RM743.
  11. Call credit card helpline. Unable to cancel. Only merchant can cancel the billing. If merchant did not collect the fund after 7 days, the billing will be null.
  12. Call Expansys Singapore, asking them how can they ensure the "pre-authorised" sum they have requested from my credit card to be cancelled after 7 days if I bank in to their Hong Kong's bank account another RM743? They couldn't. Only words. I requested to cancel the order. Only then they told me the scanned copy of utility bill is not able to get the security passes for credit card billing. How the world can they request for "pre-authorised" sum to my credit card in the first place? They asked for passport of the credit card owner now.
  13. Scanned and mailed passport.
  14. 2 hours later, no response in my inbox. Call Expansys Singapore again. Told them I have emailed the passport scan.
  15. 5 minutes later, received an email from Expansys acknowledging the scanned passport is received.
  16. Another 18 hours later, email from Expansys giving me the tracking number of shipment. Stating I will be receiving my item the next day before 18:00H.
  17. 21 August 2015, 11:30H, FedEx called. Arrived. GST fee is RM49.30. No prior notice. I'm short of RM5. Requested to pay in Singapore Dollars. Agent called main office for grace. 10 minutes later, rejected my request to pay in Singapore Dollars. Will deliver tomorrow. Total RM792.30. Can find better local deals with far less hassle.

GUTTED

Lazada Malaysia Purchasing Experiences:
  1. Found deals online. Cheaper than Expansys.
  2. Click Order. Stated 4-5 days delivery after purchasing. Enter promotion code. Another 15% off.
  3. Credit Card details given.
  4. SMS from credit card informing the purchase.
  5. 3 days later, shipping tracking number given - SKYNET.
  6. 4th day, tracking stated out for delivery. Delivery failed without contact from SKYNET.
  7. 5th day, call SKYNET. Short of staff. No delivery yesterday and today. Will do the next day.
  8. 6th day. Delivered.
If Lazada doesn't use some of the less reliable courier agents, the transaction will be smooth like butter. I've been purchasing from them a lot. Only SKYNET and GDEX have delivery issues thus far.

Purchasing from Expansys is quite a nightmare. Depict the whole purpose to choose the ease of online purchasing.

My first Yi
Ordered one from Lazada during sales - RM99 including shipping. It arrived faster than stated in the purchasing details. I've gotten one without the Night Vision.

The set-up isn't as straight forward as I've seen on Youtube. The first 3 APKs I've downloaded were all wrong. Finally, I went to the main website [LINK] to download the app for Android; it is not found in my Google Play.
Click on the orange bar with white letters to download APK
An English version of the instruction manual can be found online, too. But you will need to have an account or sign up for one with Mi Forum just to download the basic manual. Here [LINK] is a better written blog about it.

I will be getting more of it (with Night Vision) during sales again.
In low-light condition.

Another Problematic Delivery from Lazada

Monday, September 15, 2014

There are two known scheduled for deliveries today. My Mi3 by UPS and a delayed delivery of my FlashAir SD card from Pos(TAK)Laju.

And a surprised from a super delayed delivery! The bag I've paid for in eBay for over a month! I was just one day shy from opening a case via PayPal for dispute with this. Paid budget shipping with tracking service. It is even slower than the usual free shipping I get from China without tracking! This tracking service is pretty useless. Once it left China, no updates of local tracking reference! What's worse, the delivery man just honked a few times while +Kenneth Loke ran downstairs, only to see the man shafted the parcel at the gate before dashing off on his motorbike!

What if passerby took it? What if my dog took it down and chew it off?! I need to write to the seller to let him/her knows to stop using this shipping agent!

Ordered my first WiFi SD card. The app for both Android and iOS is not as good. Lacking quite a bit of functions I would like to have. I ended up having to still use another two apps for GPS locate and add into EXIF per pic. Not to mention, the transfer can at times slow down tremendously. Cannot imagine having to transfer using this method for more than 10 photos!

Testing the SD card and its app on my phone. Camera on the bed, me with the phone behind the curtain - receiving and upload to share.

Finally ready to order my own Mi3 from Xiaomi after I tallied my needs with the upcoming Mi4. For the price and my personal usage, I'm set. I won't be getting the Mi4 for that price it will be launched soon in Malaysia.

Delivery was pleasantly fast! I thought I will need to wait at least 3 weeks. When I clicked on Buy Now button online, I saw the option other than Pre-Order!

Since I've already the experience setting this phone up, setting up mine was a breeze. Just need a faster and more stable WiFi to update the OTA updates!

+Kenneth Loke and I have been testing the Hangouts extensively since Sunday. Our Android devices are receiving the rollout accordingly - Hangouts and Google+.

Once we received the Google+ updates, we can see many changes as well in the Hangouts (app). Most obvious with the photo sharing bits.

Another confusing and (annoying) incomplete flow of autobackup+autofiling which I am still trying to grasp. I have NOT found a workflow around them. I hate duplication and now, it seems

Hangouts after Google+ Android Updates

Woken up today to find new videos updated in Google's Channel, and finding plenty of this news shared from various Circles in my Google+.

First one I've checked was sending money through Gmail. Google Wallet within Gmail. How nice! If only it works like I needed - international payment sending/receiving AND working for Malaysia's users.

Another piece of update is their Hangouts! I wonder what will happen to my Android devices' Google Talk now. Not too optimal for open source devs?
